Sober Living in Transition
The "Chee-Woy-Na-Zhee" is ho-chunk name for the Recovery Halfway House, a community-based residence that provides a safe and structured environment for people who are transitioning from drug and alcohol rehab treatment. The goal of a halfway house is to help people reintegrate into society and develop the skills they need to live sober lives independently.
Alcoholism and drug misuse have a multitude of negative effects on the health & well-being of the individual, their families, and the overall stability of the Native American population both within Winnebago and the surrounding regions. At WCHS's Recovery program and the Chee-Woy-Na-Zhee Halfway House, our goal is to reduce and eliminate the rate of substance misuse among the Native American Population by offering professional outpatient treatment services, halfway house services, and youth substance misuse prevention services.
Halfway House Services Include:
- Pre-Treatment (individuals with and treatment date)
- Recreational Activities
- Recovery/Sobriety/Fellowship Activities
- Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and support groups
Halfway House Rules
Rules intended to ensure the safety and sobriety of residents and promote the development of skills related to general life tasks, employment, interpersonal relationships, etc. Halfway house rules can include:
- Abstinence. Residents and vistors must refrain from using alcohol and other drugs, and the house may implement random testing to ensure compliance.
- Alcohol and drug-free property Drugs, alcohol, and related paraphernalia are typically prohibited from the premisis.
- Employment Residents are expected to maintain be making effort to gain employment. For the unemployed, expected activities include job training, application submission, interview scheduling, etc.
- Meeting attendance Twelve-step meetings and working with an AA or NA sponsor may be recommended or required.
- Conduct Physical and verbal fighting and honesty infractions are prohibited. Honesty infractions can include lying and stealing.
- Visitation To ensure the security and safety of all. Visitor are limited to specific hour of the day. Minors can typically visit adult relatives in this halfway house if they are accompanied by a non residential parent or guardian.
Violating the rules can result have serious consequences, up to and including WCHS asking and escorting a resident off the premises. Rule violations can impact conditions for release.
