Women, Infants, and Children Program

Supporting Young Families

The Women, Infants, and Children Program (WIC) is a nationwide nutrition education and breastfeeding program that helps participants eat well, learn about nutrition, and stay healthy. Winnebago’s WIC program is a resource available to low-income moms and families helping to navigate, staying healthy and keeping their children healthy throughout this hectic time.

Helping Improve Maternal and Child Health

The program was established in response to growing concerns about malnutrition, particularly among vulnerable populations. It is focused on preventing and reducing health problems associated with poor nutrition, such as low birth weight, premature birth, and developmental delays by providing nutritious foods, WIC helps to alleviate food insecurity among low-income families. While WIC is not a cure-all for all health problems, it has proven to be a valuable tool in improving the health and well-being of vulnerable populations. In general, WIC's target audience is in the name, they serve:

  • pregnant women
  • breastfeeding new mothers
