Imaging & Radiology provides the highest quality imaging services for all clinical services throughout the health system. This department is staffed 24/7 by board registered, highly skilled and licensed technologists, ready to support our providers and meet the diverse needs of our community with advanced imaging technology.
Our Imaging Services
We offer a range of state-of-the-art imaging modalities, including:
- Radiology
- Computed Tomography (CT)
- Mammography
- Ultrasound
Our facility proudly utilizes the latest technology, including new 3D Mammography, all Digital X-ray, 64-slice CT scanning, and advanced ultrasound equipment.
Ultrasound Services
An ultrasound is a medical imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of the inside of the body. It helps healthcare providers visualize organs, tissues, and blood flow, making it useful for diagnosing and monitoring various medical conditions, including pregnancy, heart issues, and abdominal problems. It is a non-invasive and painless procedure that doesn’t involve radiation. Our ultrasound services are available Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 5:30 PM. We provide the following services:
- General Ultrasounds
- Wound or abscess imaging
Note: We do not perform vascular ultrasounds of the upper extremity (doppler or arterial) or breast ultrasounds.
Mammogram Services
A mammogram is a specialized X-ray imaging technique used to screen and diagnose breast cancer. It helps detect abnormalities or changes in breast tissue, such as lumps or microcalcifications, often before they can be felt. Regular mammograms are recommended for early detection and improved treatment outcomes. Mammograms are available Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Our services include:
- Screening mammograms starting at age 35-40, with annual screenings thereafter.
- Diagnostic mammograms starting at age 35, potentially at age 30 based on personal or family history.
CT and X-ray Services
A CT scan (Computed Tomography) is a medical imaging technique that uses a combination of X-rays and computer technology to create detailed, cross-sectional images of the body. It provides a more comprehensive view of internal organs, bones, and tissues compared to a standard X-ray.
An X-ray is a quick, painless imaging test that uses electromagnetic waves to produce images of the inside of the body, particularly bones. It’s commonly used to detect fractures, infections, or abnormalities in bones and some soft tissues.
CT and X-ray services are available 24/7. Our capabilities include:
- General CT and X-ray imaging
- Portable X-ray imaging
- Contrast and non-contrast imaging, depending on indication or problem
Note: We do not perform CT Angiograms (other than PE Chest CTA). We do not perform CT scans (other than heads) on children under 5 years old. Providers can refer to the ACR Appropriateness Criteria® for guidance.
Image Sharing and VPNs
To enhance patient care and facilitate quick communication between our facilities, we utilize VPNs to push images to James Valley Imaging, CNOS, Mercy One Sioux City, Unity Point Sioux City, and UNMC. These VPNs are beneficial for assisting our ER, inpatient, case management, and PRC departments.
