WCHS Annual Angel Tree Gives Back

Winnebago, NE – The holiday season is here, and WCHS is thrilled to bring back the Annual Angel Tree initiative. This heartwarming event aims to foster the true spirit of giving by bringing joy and warmth to families in our community.
An Angel Tree helps communities, like Winnebago, come together to ensure that there are gifts under every family’s tree this Christmas. Individuals with the capacity to give can select a tag or tags off the tree with each child's age and gender whom they can shop for. They will return the unwrapped gift and tag to WCHS. From there, WCHS's Dental Team will work to coordinate delivery with various participating family programs to ensure they reach the intended children. These programs include Winnebago’s Child and Family Services, Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, Juvenile Services, and foster care programs.

The Winnebago Angel Tree, which started long before WCHS took it over, continues to provide opportunities for generosity in Winnebago every year. When asked to reflect on what makes this Angel Tree initiative so worthwhile, WCHS Chief Dental Officer, Rex Monif explained, “This is a rewarding experience for those able to give to our children in our community.  It brings out the best in all of us.”

The Angel Tree serves children 19 and under and has made about 6,000 Christmases better, over the last 20 years, by providing approximately 300 children each year with presents under their tree. This would not be possible without the generosity of the community and the generosity of those who support this yearly endeavor. From warm winter clothes and books to toys and essential supplies, each gift is donated with great care and consideration by community members to ensure no family is missed.

WCHS continues to show its caring heart and commitment to the Winnebago Community by prioritizing, organizing, and facilitating the Angel Tree each year. Chief Public Health Officer Mona Zuffante adds, “During this time of the year, we are reminded of the importance of our Hocak values of kindness and family. We are so humble to witness the outpouring of support for our children during this Holiday season and the memories that we are able to create.”
