WCHS Dental Hosts Sealant Clinic for Children

Winnebago, NE – On March 4th and 5th , The Winnebago Comprehensive Healthcare System’s Dental Clinic held a Sealant Clinic for children. This event occurs yearly and serves Winnebago school age children in the Winnebago Public and St. Augustine Catholic Schools, ensuring local kids see a dentist at least once per year.

At this year’s Sealant Clinic, 376 school aged children received dental exams, dental sealants, and fluoride treatments. Dentists or hygienists place sealants as part of a preventive dental treatment plan. A report of the child’s dental health is sent to the teacher to provide to the parents to review and make follow up appointments as needed.

“It is amazing how a preventive treatment of sealants and fluoride can have a lifelong effect in keeping good dental health.” says Chief Dental Officer Rex Monif.

Preventive healthcare is crucial in any community, but it is a focus of WCHS’s for Winnebago and the surrounding areas. Whether it be a nutrition education carnival, or a sealant clinic, WCHS puts the community first and is making consistent efforts to be present for those that need it most.

"Our children are the future. By setting this time aside only for them shows how they can also prioritize their health. We are showing them how important their health is.” explains Chief Public Health Officer Mona Zuffante. “Dr. Monif and his team demonstrate that extra steps lead to lifetime impacts. This is one step to ensure that each child has a beautiful smile which leads to empowering them and building self-esteem. This ultimately has lasting long term positive impacts for future healthcare services.”
